Lesson integrated with ICT on Social Problems
ICT in education improves engagement and knowledge
retention: When ICT is integrated into lessons; students become more engaged in
their work. This is because technology provides different opportunities to make
it more fun and enjoyable in terms of teaching the same things in different
ways. The successful integration of ICT into the learning environment will
depend on the ability of teachers to structure learning in new ways,
to merge technology appropriately with pedagogy, develop socially active
classrooms, and encourage co-operative interaction and collaborative learning
and group work.
So
on 19th September, I took class VI ‘A’ students to TV room during
the 4th period to teach on the topic: “Social Problems”
(domestic violence and abortion). Firstly I explained them about the topic i.e.
what is domestic violence and abortion. Then I screen them the short video clip
on domestic violence and abortion, and in between the video I explained them
what are shown in the video and some which are difficult to them. Sometimes I
paused them in between the video and ask questions such as: what he is trying
to convey to us? What are the causes the domestic violence? How can we prevent
abortion? What would you do if you were the victim of abortion?

As an activity, I ask them to find out some of
the causes, consequences and preventive measures of domestic violence and
sexual abuse in group. Students discussed in the respective group and presented
their findings to the whole class. I also supplemented some points on top of
their presentation and we discussed in detail what we are going to do if it
happens to us. Children enjoyed the lesson/video very much as they watched with
full concentration and few students even ask me some doubts if they don’t
understand what was screened in TV.
As
a closure part of my lesson I ask few children to stand up and tell one preventive
measure, one cause and one consequence for the above social problems. The
lesson was interesting and every child was involved in the activity. So to make
more excited, I ask them to Google it and find out about cyber bullying as a
home work. To understand better, students were ask to read the text and solve
the questions given in the text.
Over all
teaching with ICT is fun. With the change in learning environment from regular
classes to ICT, it create different learning atmosphere and children really
love learning the lesson with ICT integrated.
